“Helio Unequaled”
For a quarter of a century beginning in 1978, Bob Griffin was a regular feature at Oshkosh as he flew sport parachute jumpers to open the airshow, and demonstrated the unique short take-off qualities of the Helio Courier flying the prototype Ol' No. 1. The airplane was selected for service with the Jungle Aviation And Radio Service by founder Cameron Townsend, who recognized its unparalleled ability to fly from short muddy jungle airstrips and then cruise at 140 mph with a sizable payload. The remarkable performance of the Helio Courier expanded the reach of linguists working around the world with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
